For our and your freedom
“Let us remember that he “Ali” fought not only for the rights and values that the Insurgents wanted to pass on to the next generation of the Republic, but he also fought for his own liberation. Liberation for Africans, Hispanics, and people of other races”
Professor Antoni Kruszyński of the University of Texas – excerpt from the speech at the ceremony of unveiling the pedestal in honor of August Agboola Browne –

Agbola – Powstaniec

Najprawdopodobniej jedyny czarnoskóry uczestnik wojny obronnej we wrześniu 1939 roku i Powstania Warszawskiego w 1944 roku
On the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising – August 1, 2024, like in previous years, a solemn commemoration of the heroes of the uprising, civilian victims and insurgents who survived the hecatomb was held.
On August 1, at 12 noon, celebrations dedicated to August Agboola Browne, a Polish musician of Nigerian origin, began in Warsaw. He was probably the only black participant in the Warsaw Uprising. According to his account, he was nicknamed “Ali” and belonged to a unit commanded by Corporal Aleksander Marciński, codename “Swan”, fighting in Śródmieście.
To honor his memory, for several years now, celebrations have been organized to highlight the contribution of people of African descent in the fight for our country. One of the organizers is a doctor from Włocławek, Emanuel Kalejaiye. The 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising was also an opportunity to remind that there are still armed conflicts in the world in which innocent people are dying. Representatives of Włocławek were also present at the ceremony. Jarosław Zdanowski, deputy mayor of Włocławek, laid flowers at the monument of August Agbool Browne.
