The 81st Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising which took place on August 1, 2025, is one for the books. As is our custom, Nigerians, Africans and the Polish citizens came out to celebrate a known volunteer of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944,August Agboola Browne,to us Africans a heroe. August Agboola was the only African honoured, who fought shoulder to shoulder with the Polish resistance (AK) in 1944, against the German occupation in Poland.

AUGUST AGBOOLA BROWNE MEMORIAL 2025

On the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising – August 1, 2024, like in previous years, a solemn commemoration of the heroes of the uprising, civilian victims and insurgents who survived the hecatomb was held.

On August 1, at 12 noon, celebrations dedicated to August Agboola Browne, a Polish musician of Nigerian origin, began in Warsaw.

The exploits of August Agboola Browne remains etched in the minds and hearts of all.

The event, organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Poland and the Foundation Peace and Freedom, had in attendance people from all races, ethnicity, religions and works of life. It was Chaired by our NIDOP chairman, Dr Emanuel Kalejaiye and moderated by NIDOP Secretary, Mr Ibrahim Oladigbolu. The head of Consular section of the Nigerian Embassy in Poland,Mrs Joyce led the delegation of the staff of the Embassy to the occasion and graced the event with an amazing speech.Also speeches were made by Mr Darek Zalewski and Dr Lucyna Żbikowska, she emphasized the importance of this anniversary and the role of August Agboola Browne.

Wreaths were laid at the memorial of August Agboola Brown, including Professor Anna and Bara Ndiaye from the University of Warmin and Mazur in Olsztyn,Dr Lucyna Żbikowska, Mr Uche from the Embassy,Mr Darek Zalewski and others.
