Ambassador Christian Onuoha Ugwu is a distinguished diplomat and retired military officer, born in Enugu, Nigeria, on August 15, 1957. Since 2021, he has proudly served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Poland. His educational journey includes a diploma in Communication from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University in 1988, a BSc. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 1990 from the same university, and a Masters in International Affairs & Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University in 2005. He advanced his studies with an MSc in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan in 2009.

Throughout his career, Ambassador Ugwu has held key positions in diplomatic missions and the military, including Corps Commander Ordnance at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps and Director of Policy at Defence Headquarters. He has also served as Directing Staff at prestigious institutions like the National Defence College and the Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

Ambassador Ugwu remarkably played a crucial role as the Acting Chief of Logistics at Headquarters ECOMOG in Liberia in 1996, including the successful evacuation of Nigerian students from the Ukraine in 2022, showcasing his dedication to peacekeeping efforts in the region and stability of Nigerians in the diaspora respectively.

His outstanding commitment to his country has earned him numerous honors and awards, including the Corps Medal of Honor, Forces Service Star, Meritorious Service Star, Distinguished Service Star, Grand Service Star, and the ECOMOG Medal. He has also achieved the Pass Staff College Dagger and held fellowships at the War College and Defence College.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ambassador Ugwu is a devoted family man. His proficiency in English, along with his remarkable career, makes him a valuable representative of Nigeria on the international stage. His distinguished service continues to strengthen diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Poland, reflecting his unwavering dedication to his country’s interests and global peace.
