Poland honours Nigerian war hero, Agboola Browne

Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Poland, Ambassador Chioma Ohakim, has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian-born war hero August Agboola Browne, who is believed to have fought alongside the Polish resistance during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising against Nazi occupation.

Speaking at the commemoration of the 82nd anniversary of the uprising in Warsaw on Saturday, according to documents shared with Tribune Online, Ohakim described Browne as an enduring symbol of courage whose life has become a bridge between Nigeria and Poland.

She said Browne, believed to be the only known Nigerian to have fought in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising against Nazi occupation, demonstrated that the struggle for justice transcends race, nationality and geographical boundaries.
