“Letters of Artur Hutnikiewicz”

dr Lucyna Żbikowska

On October 25, 2023, the RSM “Akwarium” Community Club in Rzeszów hosted the promotion of Dr. Lucyna Żbikowska’s book “Letters of Artur Hutnikiewicz”

“The new book was published (like the previous books) with great taste and editorial skill by
Ryszard Świątoniowski and his RS DRUK Publishing House.”

dr Lucyna Żbikowska

A graduate of Polish philology at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, she wrote her master’s and doctoral thesis under the supervision of prof. Artur Hutnikiewicz. A researcher of the history of great Poles and the Warsaw Uprising from Nigeria, Augusta Agbooli Browne, literary historian and poet.
He has been cooperating with NIDO in the field of culture and science for several years. Dr. Lucyna Żbikowska's recent interests focus on the works translated into Polish by the Nigerian Nobel Prize winner Wole Soyinka – the first laureate from Africa – 1986.

“Letters of Artur Hutnikiewicz” is supplemented with a very interesting, extensive essay by Lucyna Żbikowska about Artur Hutnikiewicz, his letters and diary (also in English), a biography of this outstanding scientist and a memory of him by Teresa Friedelówna.

The author of the book, Dr. Lucyna Żbikowska, talked about the genesis, relations with Professor Hutnikiewicz, his personality and the circumstances related to the finalization of her publishing project. The book and the “essence” of Artur Hutnikiewicz’s letters provoked the audience to express certain comments, thoughts and ask questions. The letters themselves and their form, the personal relations of the addressee of the letters and their author, as well as the value of the letters and their disappearance nowadays – these and other matters became the subject of a lively exchange of opinions, and later of behind-the-scenes conversations.

“In this dark world, only kindness, friendship and affection for others can sustain and allow us to somehow exist. “Lucynka, I always think of you as someone extremely beautiful who only moved like a charming shadow through my life.” It is a fragment of a letter characterized by poetic artistry, tenderness and some existential, philosophical truth about life and relationships between people.
